Many of us worry that money issues will wreck havoc on our marriage because we don’t agree. And wouldn’t it be nice if we could just think the same way about money? The reality of money in marriage is not what we expect. Let me introduce you to Mellan’s Law: “If (financial) opposites don’t attract right off the bat – and they usually do — then they’ll create each other eventually”. This means that even when two voracious spenders get married, they will eventually disagree about finances as one spouse changes to take the opposite point of view. This person will begin delaying gratification or creating budgets, because – as Mellan says – “SOMEONE has to worry about the money.”
